Ten Years Go By Fast!!!!

Day Ninety Two : Growing / Grown up

It's been almost ten years since I last wrote in this blog. If I could pick ten things I've learned to pass along here's one a day.

1. Sadness is just as much a part of life as happiness. Learn to sit with it because some of the most beautiful memories come back after losing someone or something. All the flowers still remind me of my grandmother who had a large part in my early years and would just walk around the garden talking to folks about everything related. She passed during the Covid pandemic and had a funeral over Zoom. It seemed impersonal but so many folks logged on the program to memorialize her. I miss her.

In a more present aspect of life I want to journal so why not here. Today was work in our business, yep we, Seth & I started Card Board Tables. Seth did some gig work to make ends meat while we try and build it up. Feels good to write again!

My favorite place nowadays

Embracing Emotion

8/18/2014 - Day Ninety One

Realization: Time doesn't heal wounds, it just makes them less visible to the world.

Since my relationship ended...at first, the negative thoughts won for about a month. Then the bits of happiness started at the thought that each decision was my own.
That's a good thing most would say, except for me the small bits of happiness turned into a fierce defiance of ever again giving someone free reign over my personal independence  or emotions in general.

Not being open to emotion when it involves romance from someone isn't going to take me where I want. So here is my next personal goal. Open up on things that matter. Meet new people that could be important.. and stop running! Embrace emotions.

Music: Looking Too Closely - Fink

A great song for the reflective times and it is perfect on repeat.

Strength & Sadness

9/12/2013 - Day Ninety

Changes

As changes linger
The fear grips my conciousness
Unknown is worst than unstable most days
Progress takes progression

Each step has purpose
Is that purpose failure?
Lessons learned come from failure and success
For without failure who really know success

Let it be for it will anyways
Let it be to rest
Let it be for spontaneous can't come from control
Let it be for sleep

Last year in July I wrote this about changing jobs. Here I sit at the end of a six year relationship and trying to figure out how to take this giant negative weight outta my head. And this crazy thing I wrote fits again.

The smiles are fake for now and I guess they might be for awhile.  Time heals, they say. Anyone who knows me can tell you I am a very impatient person. The feeling like you can't breathe and that a giant weight has been lifted off you in unison. Strange!

Music - Summertime Sadness - Lana Del Rey

Really good hold it together music! Check it out!

3/30/2013 - Day Eighty Nine

It has been a bit since I was able to update my life. I have missed the creative writing here dearly. Check out Delineation my freelance design company being launched as week speak.

Delineation is about a journey . . . >

Create art and create an image, a feeling, a presence, a recognizable artistic personification of your business . . . >

Market your business more effectively with unique art that talks about you to others without words being spoken . . . >

Inspire your business, inspire your employees, inspire your clients, inspire yourself and inspire your world!

There is no single path to success because there is no single way to succeed.  It is a journey, no way around it.  There are paths already available that others have made and/or taken.  History has shown that the best paths, the most successful paths, are those blazed by the individual who determines their own path, a path on which they can create marketable inspirations and love the journey along the way.

Land of Hearts, Love and Heartland...and Thursday Quotables, what :)

8/30/12 - Day Eighty Eight

Music:

Been a bit since I got to update. I have fallen in love with this song and the t.v. show it is attached to.  If you have never had the chance to watch Heartland on GMC in the US....you should! It is a show that doesn't need all the sex and drugs to be great! The actors are fantastic and I can't wait for the new season to start in Canada on Sept 16th.  It takes a bit for the new episodes to get on GMC but it is worth the wait.

Realization: Working hard is hard work but without it I just have work, and who needs that.

My new job is amazing.  I love the team and being a good addition to it.  I have recently been asked why I feel the need to work so hard at whatever I am trying to accomplish and for me the answer is if I don't what's the point all together?

Favorites

3/21/12 - Day Eighty Four

Favorites
I have been asked several times recently what my favorite this or that is.  My answer is generally I really don't know or too many to really tell.  I think everyone should have a "favorite" movie or song and so over the next few posts I am going to try and come up with a small list of favorites.

Favorite Color: Red
eye catching and intense
Favorite Country Song: Trisha Yearwood - She's in Love with the Boy
memories of my mom and sister
Favorite Rock Song: Breaking Benjamin - Dear Agony
the song that inspired my tattoo
Favorite Blues Song: Hugh Laurie - Let them Talk
wow I want a beer with this song :)
Favorite Soft Rock: Grace Potter & The Nocturnals - Apologies
my song for any emotion
Favorite Punk Song: Straylight Run - Existentialism on Prom Night
age 17-20 with the best friends ever

I would love to see a website with the lists of random peoples favorites and the reasons why.  Having a reason why it is so liked generally gives me a better perspective.

Thursday's Quotables - Design

3/8/12 - Day Eighty Two

Thursday's Quotables ninth edition

The best advice can be found in quotes from those that learned before us.

 DESIGN TRUTHS!

Design is the search for a magical balance between business and art; art and craft; intuition and reason; concept and detail; playfulness and formality; client and designer; designer and printer; and printer and public.— Valerie Pettis

Good design is a lot like clear thinking made visual.— Edward Tufte

Design is about making things good (and then better) and right (and fantastic) for the people who use and encounter them.— Matt Beale

Art is like masturbation. It is selfish and introverted and done for you and you alone. Design is like sex. There is someone else involved, their needs are just as important as your own, and if everything goes right, both parties are happy in the end.— Colin Wright

Ahh...married people

3/6/12 - Day Eighty One

Music: Paul McDonald & Nikki Reed - Now that I found you.

Really pretty song.  I like the vocals the most.  There is a very romantic feel to it with the knowledge they are married in real life.

Realization: I work hard for me.

Some work for the appreciation of others.  While this is a bonus to be sure.  I can't leave a job I know I agreed to do half assed. The feeling that I did a good job is the most important part, for me.

Inspiration: Creative Writing Day 1

Over the next three days I will be posting my three creative writing assignments this term.  I am very proud of them but would love to hear your thoughts.

Still Moments
by Jennie Libby

The first morning thought
beauty created in warm covers
The pinging sound
sideways rain on windows

The mood
a good book; peaceful
The smell
a caramel rich espresso

The person
relief at working day’s end
The time
colors to start and end a day

The feeling
a hug that lasts and lasts
The song
that resonates a feeling

The sleepless night
when truths are revealed
The red light
reminiscing about the past

The empty dinner table
good flavor realized
The handheld mirror
reflect in reflections

The bubble bath
the popping sound of bubbles as the stress vanishes
The employment break
evil laced in happiness and cancerous smoke

The movie theater
fantasy come to life
The fishing boat
when waiting is welcomed

The long hike
listening for the smallest rustles
The still moments
may we all have more

An Extra Day

2/29/12 - Day Seventy Nine

Music: The Pretty Reckless - You

Some new music I found through the YouTube suggestion section of my homepage.  This is one of the few I actually like a lot. Check it out.

Realization: We should have an extra day every year.

I have recently been talking so much about time and how little of it I seem to have.  This may be the start to the extremely busy part of my life and I am ready for it.

The last two days I literally didn't have a moment to blog.  Weird.  This has taught me that realistically I won't be able to blog everyday but I am still going to write for no less than 365 days total.

Some updates on some of my goals and the important parts of my life

I am working in the design field currently as a freelance designer.
I did the logo below and I love it!

Tax Return Relief

2/25/12 - Day Seventy Seven

Tax return came today and I finally got some food and other items I had been needing for a long time.  I'll post more on all the cool stuff tomorrow, but for tonight I'll leave you with the craziest song my boyfriend has ever "asked" me to listen to.

Music: mc chris - smackababy

Wait or Do

2/24/12 - Day Seventy Six

Inspiration: Good things come to those that wait, better things come to those that do.

I have been considering moving away from the area I currently live in for quite some time.  Culturally this isn't a good spot for a budding design career and I need a change.  I know a new city isn't going to fix everything but I am hoping it would help with some different scenery. The top three choices on the move list are Seattle or Portland, Denver or somewhere on the east coast though Boston and New York are the only really likely choices.  I would love to live closer to my sister in Charlotte, NC but I am not sure that would be exactly the change I am looking for since it isn't a huge difference from Florida.  These decisions will be weighing heavily on my mind over the next couple of weeks.  Thankfully, I have the support of my boyfriend in these discussions and concerns so hopefully we can make a good decision.

Work is the motivation

2/22/12 - Day Seventy Four

Realization: The only motivation I need is work

My mind has been crazy a buzz with all the designs in my head.  When given an idea I can create exactly what the consumer wants with some communication.  The confidence of knowing is helping me achieve some personal goals and I am ready for the next step.

Music: Jem - They

This song has been playing at Starbucks the last few days, and it is amazing to work to.  I like the lyrics because they channel some key moments in my past but the beat will get you moving.  It is great!
